Business and leisure room
Our client in Windlesham runs her coaching business from her garden as the alternative of renting a high street office was too expensive.
Using the saved rental to buy a log cabin she was able to write off the cabin in two years and now has a free business office.
The cabin also doubles up as a guest room and hobby room where friends from the local charity meet. Measuring 29m2 the cabin has a toilet and separate storage and utility room and needed no planning permission because it was less that 4m in height, more than 5m from the main house and didn’t cover more than 50% of the garden.
Internally this client has opted for the traditional Scandinavian mountain look. This gives a natural, warm and cosy feeling to the interior. The client is very happy with the log cabin and told us that having a special room to take her business relations was very important.
This garden office was less than £ 15,000 including foundation, electrical fittings, plumbing and the complete finished log cabin. A similar room as an office in the high street would cost about £1000 per month. That means that in 18 months (including interest) the client has fully paid for the cabin. The business saves £1000 per month and in addition she has a perfectly good extra room for leisure, guests etc. Buying a log cabin is cheaper than a loft conversion and an extension, and it is less intrusive while building. Finally an extra fully insulated and functional room adds value to your property.
